Okay I have ammended the cal and checked the pinout with Ryan, which is all good.
The main problem would appear that the gap is approaching TDC and the compression slows the engine giving the impression of an extended gap. As a result I've done a new cal with extended gap limits.
When checking the all of this you want to do it with the PLUGS OUT! This will give a much more consistent speed and produce less errors early on so you know what you're doing. If an error crops up when the plugs go in, you can deal with it but you already know your crank ref is good etc.
Remove plugs, unplug injectors (it will want to fire injectors on cranking otherwise) and get the timing light on an actual HT lead shoved in the coil. Don't use the diagnostic loop as it can trigger the light on the wrong edge. Set your light at ZERO if it's adjustable, otherwise any error will be doubled due to the wasted spark nature of ignition on cranking (until you are able to get it running 720 sync on cranking).
I have no idea about the part number of the LS sensor, and it's a different fitment, although I can get a spare and check it out.

Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
Ok sweet, ill give that a go tomorrow thank you, I had a trackday at SMSP-south circuit yesterday in my R32 and am still trying to recover
Ive modded my timing light ( ripped the slide latch off it ) and it actually reads off the front of the coilpack, reading off the timing loop is crazy, we have seen them up to 10deg out

Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
ok so I have tried the new cal and got this
saw the green and blue lines so tried again and got this
these where done with injectors unplugged and no spark plugs in place

Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
Green lines means it's synched up, blue lines means it's run into a sync error. I should be able to see what's going on now. Also use Sdata.exe to pull a data log, you should be able to see some data from it cranking and find out what the sync error was, or look at the small box in the bottom right of scal to tell you what it was. It will probably be a long or short gap error. Also, do you have a pic of that trigger wheel gap? Or just confirm it's a single missing tooth and they haven't given you a 37-2 wheel?!
Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
ok so I feel kinda stupid right now, it looks like it is a 36-2 tooth wheel not 36-1, I had a bit of a play around with the sensor position and gap between sensor and wheel and got this
looks like the gap was to small, it is now saying "tooth timing overflow" and still no spark
also so had a play with the crank settings, changed it to 34 teeth and added 10deg to the missing tooth distance, but not totally sure if I've got it right

Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
In order to go any further we need an accurate tooth count, and an actual gap measurement.
Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
That scope show 34 gaps, so 36-2 which would be more common in Aus than a 36-1. The max an min gaps also need adjusting to suit.
cal coming up.

Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
when I removed the sensor to check it was centered properly I thought about what you said about 37-1 so I counted the teeth while I was there by turning the motor by hand and counting the teeth as they went passed the hole, 34 teethpavlo wrote:In order to go any further we need an accurate tooth count, and an actual gap measurement.
the gap measurement, I gauged how many teeth where missing by referencing the gap against how many teeth it was equal to, should I get the vernier calipers on it and get an exact measurement ?
when the guy that manufactures it tells me its 36-1 I kinda took that for granted, that's my mistake, sorry I should have made sure
so the scope trace looks more acceptable for use and all the green lines are good, what does the timing overflow error mean, I got that after I reset the teeth count and gap distancespavlo wrote:That scope show 34 gaps, so 36-2 which would be more common in Aus than a 36-1. Thank you, the gap definition is still 35 should I change that to 34 ?pavlo wrote:36-2 cal attached.
Re: S8 on R34 gtr issue
yes it should, I though I had changed that??
Just checked my saved copy and it is 34 gaps, might have not saved last one before uploading? ANyway, I have uploaded it again so try it now.
