I didnt even know you could turn it off!
Its a weird one, it will idle fine at 2000rpm with me on the throttle, can even take it down to 1500rpm but the moment i come off the throttle it starts to hunt really bad 450rpm to 1500rpm and then it can only do that a few times then it conks out. I was playing with it for 15 odd mins and then thats when i realised my fan wasnt working!
I dont know exactly what the relay does all that i do know its Focus RS only, im going say it prob had something to do with the charge cooler system and the pump that would run on the car for that in standard form, its defo not a PWM controller, actually it might have a built in thermostate? I think i remember reading something about that being part of the relay, but then i dont understand why it worked before and not now. before i could set the fan to come on at say 50oc and it would....
The cal was copied across but yeh not sure if i did change a setting with in the cal as it was soooo long ago i did the initial setting up of the cal file! I had a quick look before having to come away from the garage but i couldn't see anything about the output being solid or not, im going to have to go have another look. I thought that the fan turn on was activated by pulling a ground but now you mention it maybe its putting 5/12v to it and thats why the relay is clicking?

Re: 2003 Ford Focus RS - sensors question ?
nowhere did I say or imply it was or could do 5/12v.
The outputs do pull to ground
And you holding the throttle open is not idle. As said, just turn closed loop idle control off for now and stabilise the idle like that

Re: 2003 Ford Focus RS - sensors question ?
So…. School boy error here…
Went investigating the fan issue. Power check, ground… off the scale resistance wise! Initially thought I had cut the ground cable when doing my loom trim when fitting the s7 but turns out I hadn’t. I had gave the engine bay a little tidy up and painted the inner wings… right over the earth points. Gave them a sand to bring back metal and the fan now works as it should. What a jackass I am!
Moved onto the idle issue and turns out the dq250 does not sent a gear position indicator back to the ecu so I removed the pin assignment and boom… idle has returned to normal. Can only assume the ecu thinking the car was in 6th gear wasn’t letting it go onto idle control correctly and thus causing my wild idle…. Food for thought and might one day help someone else out!
Thanks for the help again stevie!

Weird...can't recall if there are gear dependent idle settings....why would there ?
But road speed is definitely a factor.
So for gear selection, it only relies on gearing/rpm calcs ? Would have thought for sure it had feedback for gear actually selected ?

Yeh car was 100% not moving/wheels spinning. Weird like you say but yeh soon as I removed that from the pin assignments the ECU displayed neutral and the idle return to normal.
Yeh I was a bit surprised as well… thought the whole idea having it tied into the canbus was to get info like that back from the TCU. Will send them an email see if they have a list of info I can get back from the TCU, if any…

Re: 2003 Ford Focus RS - sensors question ?
Steve, do you know if the VIN set in vehicle coding transmits over canbus?
The VCDS software I use is locked to 3 vins before you can do advance functions to the tcu. The software is showing a 1111111111111 as the cars vin and as it’s unable to pull this from the tcu I suspect it’s coming from the ecu, just I don’t know if that’s a default value in the syvecs or if it’s the vcds software as a default number for no detectable vin.
Not at the car just now so if you don’t know it’s no issue, il check when I get near it again.

Re: 2003 Ford Focus RS - sensors question ?
Know nothing about that side of things unfortunately.
But as the ecu is talking to the TC with custom firmware....I'd be cautious about fucking about with anything that might upset that ?
Have you contacted that crowd in Holland who do the firmware you're using ?
And I don't think it's too expensive to buy a few more licenses for VCDS. I bought the 10 license version, although still only used 2. But there is the option to go unlimited etc for a few quid extra.

Re: 2003 Ford Focus RS - sensors question ?
Yup that was my feeling as well, especially when the settings for the shifters is with in the car coding config section. A little too close for comfort.
I changed it to my focus vin just to see and the message didn’t appear with in vcds so I’m going to assume it works. But I changed it back to 1111111…. For the reasons you mentioned!
Got an email back with regards to what comes back over CAN,
Hello Jack,
Here the list from read messages from the canbus (not all active in your case, no abs etc)
FLSPEED_SLOT //Slave an13
FRSPEED_SLOT //Slave an14
RLSPEED_SLOT //Slave an15
RRSPEED_SLOT //Slave an16
LATG_SLOT //Slave an17
SHIFTER_SLOT //Slave an18
BRAKEP_SLOT //Slave an19
GEAR_SLOT //Slave an20
BLIP_SLOT //Slave an21
ACREQ_SLOT //Slave an22
LIMP_SLOT //Slave an23
TRQLIM_SLOT //Slave an24
GEARCUT_SLOT //Slave an25
REVERSE_SLOT //Slave an26
CLUTCHA_SLOT //Slave an27
CLUTCHB_SLOT //Slave an28
Think I’m going to do some logging, I have a issue with the box where I can get it into gear and go up the revs and through the box but the moment I go back into neutral the box won’t select a gear, get the following errors
01208 - Data Records in Control Unit Altered
19143 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement
P2711 - 001 - - MIL ON
19143 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement
P2711 - 002 - - MIL ON
17106 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor (G195)
P0722 - 000 - No Signal - Intermittent
18201 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor 2 (G196)
P1793 - 000 - No Signal - Intermittent
I had been pre warned the speed signals need to be clean and accurate, so it’s kinda pointing to them being the issue. Got a few things to try with the low high thresholds before maybe looking at using the abs sensors as Iv since find out I can T into them and still keep abs….

Re: 2003 Ford Focus RS - sensors question ?
So was trying to log my speed sensor voltages there but cant seem to get them to show on ether SCal as a gauge or record in Sdata?
The pins are Slave1 AN05 and Slave1 AN06, but both the gauge (scalled to 0v-5v, and @ 1Hz) dont show anything, just flat 0. Same in Sveiw? What the sensors are for (wheel speed) Left and Right, can log them ok and it shows them as a gauge in scal.
Weird ! im trying to set up the thresholds to see if i can stop the box from going into limp.
