sorry to be a nuisance, i found the 105c cable and the reychem 44 cable but what i couldn't find was shielded reychem 44, have i misunderstood you?
is the analog stuff shielded?
i understand the need to keep the grounds separate for signal and power. is that what you mean by using the right ground in the right place?
new to all of this
Re: new to all of this
Farnell do it, for example:

Basic "rule" would be that cable screens are power/engine ground whereas 0V feed to (for example) powered sensors, or the signal return of (say) a knock sensor, are analogue ground.
HTH.

Re: new to all of this
Knock sensors also have their own ground separate from the analogue ground.
Re: new to all of this
Absolutely right Paul...I chose a duff, and potentially misleading, example. Thanks for the correction

No worries TIm!
Re: new to all of this
is there an idiot's guide for making your first engine loom or is it trial and error?
Re: new to all of this
Making an engine loom is not something that should be attempted by idiots.
For everyone else, there's Ryan's manual on how to hook up most of it.

i do have a hnd in electronics and am qualified to solder on polaris missiles, however it is my first engine loom and i'm pretty sure i am an idiot, what with 42 years of evidence backing me uppavlo wrote:Making an engine loom is not something that should be attempted by idiots.
