Firing up an S6PnP on an Impreza

Post by ashleywrx »

I've just installed one of these into my 03 wrx. I've noticed that the CEL does not come on when I turn on the ignition and the fuel pump does not appear to be priming as it does with the OEM ECU. I can hear the pump pulse very briefly but it does not whir for a couple of seconds like with the OEM ECU. Car turns over but does not start as it has yet to be mapped. Does this sound normal?

Thanks it is just has the default cal file on it with zeros across the board. Does fuel pump control need to be switched on in the cal file (perhaps I have wrongly assumed it is hard coded as a default). Also does CEL activity need to be configured?

If you have a base map with some basic injector and ignition values already populated that would be a big help to get the car fired up and then it can be properly mapped from there. I am running 800cc injectors but am happy to adjust whatever you have as required.

Cheers Ash.

Ashley,

as already mentioned the ECU comes without a map by default. The reason is that the flexibility of the ECU means it is impossible to predict what it will be connected to. If you want to email me (pat@syvecs.com) with details of the spec of the car then I'll happily send you a calibration that should match your setup as a starting point; you will still need to map it to suit your exact setup.

The only pin functions on the S6 that are set in stone are the power, ground and comms, everything else is configurable. That is why the fuel pump isn't priming; the ECU hasn't been told a) how and b) that it should. Same applies for every other input and output. A base calibration will include all of this information plus details of the trigger patterns, trigger voltages etc. Normally a car with a base map on the ECU will just fire on the key, but the base does need to suit the car. You say that the car is a WRX, so it won't have variable valve timing, whereas the STi model does, yet it is the same ECU hardware... so a "one size fits all" base cal isn't possible, if you see what I mean ?

Cheers,

Pat.
