Hi I am new on here & am getting a Syvecs ecu fitted to my 97 impreza (3 plug type).I plan to fit switches for launch control & anti lag on the centre console, along with a cal switch which I want use for changing the map settings only & also anti theft.
I am making a small wiring loom & I have a few questions for you to answer for me please,

1) For the launch control. Do I feed the toggle switch on the console from the ECU & have a cable return to the ECU from the switch. I do know that on my simtek the L/C would be on all the time if you like & would only operate once the clutch was down & throttle pressed,(never got round to getting this fitted though).but I want to be able to switch it off.

2) For the anti Lag, do I do the same. Ie cable to switch & back to ECU

3) I have one led light on the dash which I would like to use as a shift light, Ie lights up around 300 to 500 rpm before my ideal shift revs giving me time to shift when it lights up, Will this be a cable from the ecu to the LED. also would this cable be a live to the LED or a switched earth, or should both cables come from the ECU again.

4) When it comes to Data logging can I log all of the following, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, boost & air fuel mixture.

5) When there Knock detected can an led on the dash be lit up, if so is the wiring the same set up as the shift light

Hiya Simmie!

1) The default setup for the launch control is for it to be activated by the neutral position switch. This normally works out quite well because it means that the Launch strategy is activated when you press the clutch and engage a gear. You don't have to use this though... you can use a toggle switch if you prefer and there are a few options on how to connect that. Firstly, you could snip the neutral wire in the ECU well and connect the switch to the wire that goes into the ECU, thereby "relocating" the activation from the neutral switch to the toggle. Alternatively you can use either the Test Mode or Read Memory connectors under the dash. These are connected to spare inputs on the ECU and can be assigned to the Launch function in the software; I would suggest this is an easier option. And finally.... some people have fitted a switch in series with the Neutral switch, this allows the Launch to be activated as usual but you can choose to disable the launch function by flicking the switch.

2) For the ALS I would suggest using the Test Mode or Read Memory connectors under the dash. Just need to fit a switch with two wires terminated in a male and female spade connector; plug those connectors into the mating halves of the Test Mode or Read Memory connector.

3) The Check Engine light is connected to a spare output on the ECU. You could snip the wire from the ECU and use that to turn on your shift light. All of the INJ and PWM outputs are open collector (switched earth), so you would need to supply an ignition switched +12V to the LED.

4) You can log pretty much any parameter that the ECU processes, so all the ones you mention can be logged, and at whatever rate you configure. Please note that the car does not come with an oil pressure sensor so you would need to fit one and connect it to log oil pressure. Please also note that the standard lambda sensor is narrow band so you will only be able to log whether it is rich or lean, not how rich or lean, unless you fit and connect a wideband sensor.

5) There is a knock warning function available that allows an output to be driven if the maximum knock ignition retard exceeds a defined threshold. Typically this would be set in the region of 3 degrees, it is pretty normal for the ECU to dynamically pull a little bit of timing here and there, so the threshold should be set to something that you would consider "abnormal". Wiring wise it makes more sense to use the Check Engine light for this, and use a different spare output for the shift light. Perhaps use the Pressure Sources Switching Solenoid output pin to drive the shift LED instead... less wiring and Check Engine is a pretty sensible display for excessive knock correction!

In order to use the "flat shift" as you call it, you will need to tell the ECU somehow that a gear change is going to happen and to deal with it. The most likely way of doing this is to use a switch on the clutch pedal. You can use a brake switch for this purpose, it should just bolt into the clutch pedal bracket....
