Hello
I am half way through making a custom loom for an Impreza and have a couple of questions.
1. Coil wiring (Ver 1.5 Mani, Centre mounted). There are 3 wires, I assume 1 would require a 12v supply from Battery and the other 2 would terminate at pins 26 & 27?
2. I have an LC-1, do I need to use the controller?, any ideas which pins to use?
3. ALS/LC switch, I assume that I would take a 5v supply from pins 10 or 11 to the switch and return the wires to either 40,41,42 or 43. If this is correct then I have no spare 5v pins as I have used them for TPS & MAP
4. Also I purchased the Soaris with basic knock control which I now regret, is it possible to upgrade to advanced knock control...

Re: LC-1 wiring and Coil wiring
Andy,
Some answers for you :
1) The V1.5 coil has a +12V feed to the centre pin and one pin each for No.1&2 and No.3&4, but they are high level and cannot be driven from an S6, you would need an S8 to drive them directly. Instead, you should make use of the ignitor module that is already on the car, it is located on the driver's side suspension turret and takes low power signals from the ECU and controls the igniton coils directly. You may be able to make use of some of the existing wiring from the foot well to the turret and then just run fresh wires from the turret to the engine.
2) You will need to use the LC-1 controller, the sensor employed by that unit is of a type that is presently incompatible with the onboard wideband controller in the S6. If you were to use an NTK UEGO sensor then that can be directly connected. As it stands you will need to run the output from the LC-1 into a spare input on the S6, you can use any free AB, AU or AV input for this purpose, just configure the ECU to let it know that's where the wideband is connected and give it a linearisation curve so it knows what AFR different voltages represent.
3) ALS and Launch Control are digital signals so are best handled by either AR or AU inputs. The input should be confiured to Thermistor and the switch should ground the input to enable the function. You don't need any additional +5V supply for these functions. Be caureful when populating pins that you don't run out, it is not uncommon to put 3 wires into a single pin, especially on the analogue grounds. Make the loom first, THEN put pins on it....
4) You can upgrade to the full knock control at any time, however it is a factory fit option and not field upgradeable, unlike the main firmware, option flags and the boot code can only be upgraded by returning the unit for upgrade. If you are thinking about doing this and the car is off the road at the moment anyway then it would make sense to do it before you actually NEED it....
Hope this helps,
Pat.

Thanks for the advice, all understood. I'm sure however that as the loom progress's I will have more questions that hopefully someone can answer.
I will contact my retailer (Mark @ Lateral) and return the unit for upgrade.

If you could pass the settings on that would be usefull.
Just to confirm, I plan to use the 'analogue out 2' from the LC-1 controller which outputs 0V = 7.35 AFR and 5V = 22.39 AFR into an AU input. This in will be the only wire that actually terminates into the ECU from the wideband controller...
Thanks
Andy
