another 4 years later, this feature still missing and makes sense to have.

Which feature ? there is an overrun fuel cut.

I was looking into this, Maybe turn Overrun fueling higher just for neutral, gear. So when the you start up. The initial blip will cover the fuel. Set Overrun the rest of the gears at desired choice.
