Sensors for steering angle and brake pressure

Post by Wez »

Hey All,

What are the recommended sensors for steering angle and brake pressure?

Wes,

The S6 is very flexible, so the best answer is "whichever sensor works best for you". There's no point in choosing one that doesn't fit, nor is there any point in using one that costs a fortune when one at a tenth of the price will do the job just as well!

For steering wheel angle, sensors such as the MM Competition Systems String Potentiometer or the GL Steering sensor may work well.

For brake pressure, you would need to know what sort of pressure the brake system is designed to work at. If, for example the maximum pressure is going to be less than 200 bar, then a sensor such as this one might do the trick, but there are many suppliers of pressure sensors out there, and most will be compatible. The only thing that might be worth bearing in mind is that sensors that output more than +5V will need an attenuator to get the output back into the 5V range; some sensors seem to give a 1-6V output, for example, and you'de need a resistive divider (say 1k and 4k7) to drop the output within range.

Hope this helps a little,

Pat.
