Re: PID tuning, any good reads?
Sometimes starting values, are difficult to predict, hence trial and error method might be best during the field operations - especially in situations when actuator is not following command in a 'linear manner' - pneumatic positioning systems for example. Also there are quite few PID algorithms, beh...

Re: Rotary switches for calibration changes, type question
:) War - nah... It's just opinions with reasoning why. Think for example that '60 mV' slope. In switch position 7 'worst case' difference is 420 mV at minimum (actually more than that ) when temp change is approximately 20-30 Deg C. ...Then when you have different forward voltage diodes connected in...

Re: Rotary switches for calibration changes, type question
and also worse, than when using foil resistors, despite of flowing current. Hence - one reason why all ADC binary and laddering circuits, are made with resistors.

Re: Rotary switches for calibration changes, type question
There was a good reason that I changed from resistor ladders to diodes.... I'll leave it to the reader to figure out why it was a step in the right direction :) What that 'good reason' might be? In my opinion - it is more difficult to measure circuit -in fault finding situations, when using diodes ...

Re: Rotary switches for calibration changes, type question
"Based on..." 0.1 mA - we can't assume current flowing through circuit to that low - when using diodes. Hence current flowing through circuit is greater than that, as diode does not limit forward flowing current to that low level. So - forward voltage slope is definitely greater than (60 m...

Re: Rotary switches for calibration changes, type question
I don't agree that the temperature change is negligible. See the datasheet chart - change is 'easily' 0.2-0.3 volt over one diode at 30 degree temperature change - so when combined that with switch position 7 for example - total voltage change is also 7 times more (1.4 - 2.1 volts). In my opinion, d...

Re: Rotary switches for calibration changes, type question
Althought the forward voltage drop in diodes is linear, but the change (slope) certainly is more as a function of temperature, than in metal foil resistors - also the forward voltage value differs between (same production batch) diodes. <clip> Foil resistor The primary resistance element of a foil r...

Re: which igniter/amp
Building DIY coil charging module is quite trivial, fex. you could use ISL9v3040 from Fairchild Semiconductor, which is 300mJ, 400V, N-Channel Ignition IGBT component. Capable of switching 17A current at 100 dec. C (21 A at 25 Dec. C). As what comes to casing, ones mileage may wary - cost effective ...

Re: Water / oil / fuel temp sensors
Bias resistor value is quite easy to determine, at least when bias resistor value is not changing - fex. some OEM GM systems bias resistor is swithced during temperature change. Sensor and bias resistor act as a voltage divider as per equation in earlier post. So the output voltage equals the bias v...
